Investigation of transcritical R-744 Voorhees heat pump system.

Author(s) : ZHA S., HAFNER A., NEKSÅ P.

Summary

According to previous theoretical and experimental investigations, applying a Voorhees supercharge method in R-744 heat pump cycles is an effective way to improve the heating capacity of a heat pump in cold climates. In order to explore the improvement possibility and potential of the heating capacity of heat pump units and to obtain optimum energy efficiency, R-744 heat pumps are investigated at different operating conditions. Tests have been performed with an R-744 system, designed for car air conditioning, where the same compressor was applied with and without Voorhees supercharge. The bypass control method for Voorhees supercharge system is also tested and discussed. The way of operating these kinds of units at different operating conditions is advised based on experimental results.
