Investigations of the ethylene build-up during transport of pot plants in controlled temperature trucks.

Type of article: Article

Summary

In order to assess ethylene levels during pot plant transport, two trucks were monitored during 70 delivery trips. The build-up of ethylene during pot plant transport appears to be dependent on: adequate ventilation; the rate of ethylene production by the load; ethylene production from the material of which the walls were made; and residual ethylene absorbed onto the truck lining from previous loads and high-ethylene producing crops. Damage received by pot plants during transport did not cause complaints from wholesalers.
