Laser materials processing fundamentals.
Author(s) : SHERIDAN D.
Type of article: Article
Summary
CO2 lasers used in materials processing require lasing gases, purging gases, and process or assist gases. The use of carbon dioxide lasers in the metal fabrication industry has grown substantially in the past decade, creating a greater demand for assist and process gas delivery systems. The systems are described, the physical and chemical properties of the gas used (resonator gas, assist gas and beam purge gas) are presented. The supply of these gases in cryogenic mode is the most suitable and economical.
