Summary
Hydraulic systems that are designed and used by man, if incorrectly designed and maintained, can become sources of bacterial infection due to "Legionella pneumophila", the causative agent of legionella. All staff working on these hydraulic systems (air-conditioning and humidifying systems, water cooling towers) can be exposed to contamination (group-2 biological risk, following EC risk classification established by the Council Directive 93/88/EEC and modified by Commission Directives EC/95/30, EC/97/59 and EC/97/65).
