Lithium bromide/R718 hybrid sorption & compression cycle.

Number: pap. n. 560

Author(s) : ECKERT T., HELM M., GRASSEL A., et al.

Summary

The authors present a hybrid chiller concept with 20 kW chilled water capacity at temperature level of 10°C for very low driving heat temperatures below 65°C under European climate. The development comprises a thermally driven absorption chiller with working pair water/aqueous lithium bromide solution, including an electrically operated ultra-high speed turbo compressor at up to 90 000 rpm as capacity booster and backup. This concept is developed in order to broaden the operational capability of sorption chillers and heat pumps in combination with low exergy heat sources e.g. district heating, CHP-units and industrial waste heat. Starting from a description of the state of the art, the general system concepts and results of a steady-state thermodynamic simulation of the sorption & compression process in different configurations are described.
