A RECENT EUROMONITOR SURVEY ON INTERNATIONAL MARKETS FOR DOMESTIC REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS FORECASTS THAT THE FUTURE LOOKS BLEAK FOR THE COUNTRIES COVERED IN THE SURVEY. THE 1983 FIGURES FOR THE HOME OWNERSHIP OF REFRIGERATORS SHOWS FRANCE AS THE HIGHEST WITH 96% OF HOUSEHOLDS, WITH THE USA LAGGING WITH ONLY 66%. WITH FREEZERS, THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY LED WITH 47%, FOLLOWED BY THE UK (41%), ITALY (39%), FRANCE (31%) AND THE USA (31%). IN 1983 THE WORLD MARKET LEADER WAS ITALY WITH THE HIGHEST SHARE (40%), FOLLOWED BY THE USA (30%), FRANCE (28%), THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY (22%) AND THE UK (20%). UNIT SALES OF HOME REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT ROSE SLIGHTLY IN THE USA, BUT REMAINED STATIC IN THE EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. BASED ON THE CONSTANT 1984 PRICES, FORECASTS FOR HOME REFRIGERATION SALES FROM 1985 THROUGH TO 1987 SHOWS THAT FRANCE WILL INCREASE BY ABOUT 7%, THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY BY ONLY 0.4% AND ), UK (-6%) AND USA (-3%).
