STATISTICAL PANORAMA: REFRIGERATION.

Type of article: Article

Summary

FIGURES FROM THE USA INDICATE A SMALL REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF UNITS SOLD IN 1990 FOR COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION. FROM 1988, NUMBERS OF FOOD DISPLAY CASES HAVE REMAINED REASONABLY CONSTANT, BUT FOR LOW TEMPERATURES, GLASS DOOR REACH-IN CASES HAVE BEEN MORE POPULAR. MORE CONDENSING UNITS HAVE BEEN SOLD WITH PARALLEL MULTIPLE COMPRESSORS, BUT UNIT COOLER SALES HAVE FALLEN BY 18 %. DOMESTIC REFRIGERATORS HAVE REMAINED CONSTANT BUT SMALL INCREASES ARE REPORTED IN HOME FREEZERS. R22 IS BECOMING THE MORE USED REFRIGERANT WITH TWO-STAGE SYSTEMS OR LIQUID INJECTION FOR LOW TEMPERATURES. ENERGY COSTS ARE OF INCREASING IMPORTANCE. ONE SUPERMARKET CHAIN ANNOUNCES ALMOST A THIRD SAVING FOR A COMPUTERISED CONTROL OF REFRIGERATION, LIGHTING AND AIR-CONDITIONING COMPARED TO ITS AVERAGE STORES. D.W.H.
