Long distance refrigerated transport into the third millennium.

Summary

In recent years, marine refrigerated cargo has increased at a rate of nearly 5.4% per annum and it is anticipated the volume will reach over 64.0 million tons by the year 2005. Air cargo has been increasing even faster, by some 10 to 12% per annum and the very encouraging forecasts predict that its volume will double by the year 2005 to reach 8.8 million tons. The paper highlights the technical trends in the field of reefers, containers, including controlled atmosphere possibilities, temperature and humidity control devices. Air transport is briefly analysed.
