IIR document

Low-cost helium cryostat for 1.5 K.

Summary

The liquid helium bath input is strongly dependent on the temperature near to the lambda-point. The heat flows above the lambda-point correspond to the predicted values whereas those below the lambda-point are several times higher. Two explanations may be used: (a) the influence of superfluid helium film is more significant than supposed; or (b) the helium film transmort was increased by the liquid helium rising in the silk insulation of the temperature sensor leads used.
