THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES FOUR REFRIGERATED ROAD VEHICLES DESIGNED FOR LOW NOISE LEVELS, PARTLY TO OVERCOME AUSTRIAN RESTRICTIONS ON NIGHT DRIVING. MAIN VEHICLE ENGINES WERE INSTALLED TO OPERATE AT LOWER THAN NORMAL SPEEDS, WITH ENGINE, WHEEL ARCH AND GEARBOX ENCLOSED, CREATING LARGE RADIATOR SURFACES. COMPRESSED AIR BRAKING SYSTEMS WERE MODIFIED, AND THE MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION, R22, AND BULKHEAD MOUNTED UNITS WERE CHOSEN FOR THEIR LOW NOISE LEVELS. COMPRESSOR DRIVES ARE THROUGH DIESEL GENERATOR SETS MOUNTED UNDER THE TRUCK BODY OR GENERATORS DRIVEN DIRECTLY FROM THE TRUCK ENGINES.
