Low-stability region of refrigerants and its influence on retrograde phenomena.

Author(s) : GÓRSKI J., RABCZAK S.

Summary

Some questions of existence the low thermodynamic stability region of compressible fluids near the critical state point and saturation line are analyzed. It is shown that within this range of parameters some peculiar phenomena occur in the thermal-flow processes such as the abnormal behaviour of isentropic flow during expansion or compression of the fluid ("retrograde phenomena"). A low thermodynamic stability is directly connected to retrograde phenomena, especially in fluorocarbons and other high molecular mass refrigerants. An extensive analysis of thermodynamic stability, sound velocity and isentropic exponent for PFP (C5F12) exhibit non-classical behaviour in the dense vapour region. Some calculation results are given.
