Magnetocaloric properties of some derivatives of Gd6Mn23.

Author(s) : LEMOINE P., BAN V., VERNIERE A., et al.

Summary

The Gd6(Mn1-xCox)23 and Gd(6-x)Er(x)Mn(23) series of alloys present a low to moderate magnetocaloric effect in a broad temperature interval below their Tc (up to 489 K in Gd6Mn23). The magnetic entropy variation originates from the distinct magnetic ordering of the rare earth and transition metal sublattices. Both peak temperatures can be altered by chemical substitutions. This yields an anomalous magnetocaloric response over a more or less wide temperature interval. The cooling capacity below Tc is roughly independent of composition and close to q at about 3.0-3.5 J/cm3.
