Giant magnetocaloric effect in Gd(5.1)Si(2)Ge(2-x)B(x) at room temperature with low magnetic field.

Author(s) : WANG X. Z., ZENG Z., HU X. H., et al.

Summary

These samples have been prepared with vacuum melting furnace under high purity argon atmosphere. Adding boron reasonably could impel orthorhombic Gd5Si4 changed into monoclinic Gd5Si2Ge2, especially when x=0.01. The magnetic entropy change is 13.7 J/Kg.K for 0-1.5 T low magnetic field change at room temperature, which exhibits giant magnetocaloric effect and brings the hope of room temperature magnetic refrigeration technology applying in commercially.
