Summary

Melting, freezing and phase change processes are of fundamental importance in science and engineering, arising in such areas as cryosurgery, welding, latent heat thermal energy storage, metal casting, nuclear reactor safety, metal processing, and environmental sciences. The authors have developed mathematical models of phase change processes which are the basis for computer simulations as well as engineering relations used for sizing systems and rough analyses. Solutions, analytical approximations and numerical methods are explicited in the book. The scope of applicability includes all possible initial and boundary conditions, internal heating sources, alloy systems and three-dimensional processes.
