MEASUREMENT OF FRICTION FACTORS FOR THE FLOW OF GASES IN VERY FINE CHANNELS USED FOR MICROMINIATURE JOULE-THOMSON REFRIGERATORS.

Summary

THE WIDTH OF THE CHANNELS WERE 130 TO 200 MICROMETERS AND THE DEPTH 30 TO 60 MICROMETERS. THE TESTS INVOLVED BOTH LAMINAR AND TURBULENT FLOW REGIMES. THE RESULTS SHOW SOME INTERESTING CHARACTERISTICS OF FLOW RESISTANCE FOR VERY FINE CHANNELS. THESE DIFFER FROM ONES FOR COMMON PIPES BECAUSE OF THE LARGE RELATIVE ROUGHNESS AND ASYMMETRIC ROUGHNESS.
