THE MEASUREMENT OF TRANSIENT TEMPERATURES DOWNSTREAM OF A 3 M POORLY INSULATED DUCT, USING A THERMOCOUPLE HAVING A FINITE TIME CONSTANT, CAN LEAD TO MEASURABLE DIFFERENCES FROM TEMPERATURES MEASURED IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A COOLING COIL (AND BLOWER) UNDER IDEALIZED CONDITIONS. IN THE EXAMPLE ANALYZED, A 9% DIFFERENCE IN COOLING DURING A SIX-MINUTE BLOWER ON-TIME IS COMPUTED, PRIMARILY DUE TO TRANSIENT EFFECTS.
