Summary

Two melting processes, namely, a two-dimensional melting process with natural convection from a vertical wall and a one-dimensional melting process by heat conduction from an upper horizontal wall, are studied experimentally. The R141b was used for generating clathrate. The following results are obtained. In the melting process, the clathrate decomposes into an emulsion region and a liquid halogenated hydrocarbon region. Concentration gradient of hydrocarbon in the emulsion plays an important role in the natural convection in the melt.
