METHODOLOGIES FOR OPTIMAL CONTROL OF CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS WITHOUT STORAGE.

Author(s) : BRAUN J. E.

Summary

TWO METHODOLOGIES ARE PRESENTED FOR DETERMINING THE OPTIMAL CONTROL SETTINGS FOR CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS THAT DO NOT HAVE SIGNIFICANT THERMAL STORAGE. A COMPONENT-BASED NONLINEAR OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM WAS DEVELOPED AS A SIMULATION TOOL FOR INVESTIGATING OPTIMAL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. RESULTS OF THIS ALGORITHM, IMPLEMENTED IN A COMPUTER PROGRAM, LED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIMPLER SYSTEM-BASED METHODOLOGY FOR NEAR-OPTIMAL CONTROL THAT IS SIMPLE ENOUGH FOR ON-LINE IMPLEMENTATION.
