Summary

This paper presents an overview of the present state of the art of micro-electronics, computers and their use in research, design, manufacturing and control of refrigerating equipment. Recent trends and the importance of their main applications are demonstrated. Special attention is paid to the efficiency of components, computer graphics, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, data banks, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, computer-integrated manufacturing and process control. It is concluded that refrigeration has opened up a new era of micro-electronics and computer utilization, and great efforts will be needed to develop fields of application which are both practical and economical.
