THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE ABILITY OF A MICROPROCESSOR CONTROL SYSTEM TO OFFER A COMPLETE CONTROL, MONITOR AND ALARM SERVICE FOR A MIX OF DIFFERENT COMPRESSORS OPERATING ON A CENTRAL PLANT PRODUCING ONE OR MORE LEVELS OF COOLANT TEMPERATURE. THE SYSTEM IS PROGRAMMED WITH SIGNIFICANT OUTPUT AND INPUT ENERGY DATA FOR EACH COMPRESSOR, EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSER SET, INCLUDING EFFICIENCY VARIATIONS WHICH OCCUR WITH THE CAPACITY CONTROL METHOD EMPLOYED. A SINGLE SENSOR IN THE COOLED MEDIUM PRODUCES AN ERROR SIGNAL WHICH IS THEN USED TO PRODUCE AN OPTIMISED MIX OF COMPRESSORS AND LOADING STAGES TO SATISFY THE DEMAND. BUILT IN ARE ALSO SAFETY FACTORS INCLUDING LIMITING RECYCLING TIMES AND ALSO SEQUENTIAL DELAYED STARTING OR CAPACITY ADJUSTMENT TO PREVENT MAXIMUM ELECTRICAL DEMAND IN TARIFF STRUCTURES FROM BEING EXCEEDED.D.
