THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE APPROACH CONCEPTUSED IN HEAT EXCHANGER NETWORKING IS SHOWN TO BE RELATED TO THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY LOST IN HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM, AND IN A NORMALISED FORM TO THE INEFFECTIVENESS OF A HEAT EXCHANGER. THE LINK BETWEEN THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE APPROACH AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A HEAT EXCHANGER ENABLES THE NETWORK DESIGNER TO ELIMINATE ALL EXCHANGER CONFIGURATIONS THAT CANNOT MEET THE DUTY OF A STREAM MATCH AT THE NETWORK PINCH.
