Mobile air conditioning fuel consumption and thermal comfort assessment procedure.

Summary

The paper describes a method proposal to assess the fuel consumption and the perceived thermal comfort level during climatic room testing. The procedure has been elaborated in the framework of the EU funded project B-COOL and constitutes one of the project outputs. The B-COOL project is focused to the development of a low cost and high efficiency CO2 mobile air-conditioning system for low segment cars. The project is carried out by a consortium constituted by the Centro Ricerche Fiat, that is the coordinator, Valeo, Delphi, Manuli, Hydro, Sintef, Armines, Braunschweig University and Ford. The procedure has been conceived as a proposal for a common method to qualify the mobile air conditioning system in terms of fuel consumption and thermal comfort so to be able to compare systems based on different approaches or technologies (e.g. CO2 vs R-134a vs R-152a).
