Summary

Frost formation on heat exchangers can reduce their performance. Therefore it is worthwhile to develop a predictive tool to evaluate the frost thickness according to operating conditions. The paper deals with simple modelling of the evolution of frost layer formation on the external or the internal surface of a cold tube over time. The approach leads to two possible models according to the assumption made regarding the interface temperature. Partial validation of the models is presented. Simulation shows the effect of the radius and the temperature of the tube as well as that of the relative humidity.
