Monte Carlo simulation of molecular flow and radiative heat transfer in helium bath cryopump.

Summary

Two versions of small helium bath cryopump with different baffle structures, molecular flow and thermal radiation heat transfer were simulated by the Monte Carlo method. The pumping speeds were assessed and compared with a prediction made using published transmissivities of the louver and chevron baffles. Supposing diffusive reflections of heat radiation, heat loads of individual shields were evaluated and found satisfactorily low from the cryogenic point of view in both versions of the pump. The qualitative simulations of the influence of mirror reflections on heat transfer indicated a significant increase in all heat loads in the pump with the louver and chevron baffles.
