Summary

Water-cooled centrifugal chillers for temperature maintenance of enclosed spaces in data centres are often selected according to standard conditions given by the engineer designing a cooling plant. Centrifugal chillers used to be applied with fixed water conducts. By applying speed control on the present generation of centrifugal chillers, one can gradually control the cooling capacity. This article discusses the demands on the newest generation of centrifugal compressors. However, attention will be paid to the free cooling as well.
