New high efficiency piston compressors for ammonia.

Number: pap. n. 289

Author(s) : BON G.

Summary

The trend towards the use of natural refrigerants in combination with high efficiency refrigeration systems is increasing across the world. As a consequence research into compressor design has to be taken to the highest possible level with particular focus on the use of Ammonia (NH3) being a natural refrigerant, which minimizes the carbon footprint, for all commonly used refrigeration applications A natural refrigerant like NH3, however, demands special attention in piston compressor design to reach the lowest TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) which, in practice, stands for: lowest power consumption per kW cooling capacity, large field of application, minimum oil consumption and particularly - maximum reliability and life time.
