Summary

A NEW DESIGN OF EXPANSION VALVE IS POWERED BY A BIMETAL HEATER INSTALLED IN A THERMAL HEAD SIMILAR TO THAT OF A CONVENTIONAL THERMOSTATIC EXPANSION VALVE. THE HEATER IS CONTROLLED BY A LIQUID-SENSING THERMISTOR AT THE EVAPORATOR OUTLET AND IT IS CLAIMED THAT THE EVAPORATOR OPERATES WITH NO SUPERHEAT. THE SAME VALVE AND SENSOR CAN CONTROL A FLOODED EVAPORATOR AND ALSO BE USED AS A TWO-DIRECTIONAL EXPANSION VALVE ON REVERSING HEAT-PUMP CIRCUITS, THE SENSOR BEING IN THE COMPRESSOR SUCTION. D.W.H.
