Type of article: Periodical article

Summary

A description of the services provided is followed by a discussion of the design philosophy and theory, and a description of the total leak calibration system. Uncertainties associated with the primary leak standard and leak comparator system are discussed in detail. Important properties of helium permeation leaks, especially the temperature dependence, are also discussed. Sections on quality control and future directions are followed by appendices discussing general theory of gas flow in vacuum systems, and proper use and conversion of flow rate units.
