Author(s) : BOYCE P. R.

Summary

DOMESTIC AIR-WATER HEAT PUMPS ARE A SOURCE OF NOISE. THE AUTHOR STUDIED 30 AIR-WATER HEAT PUMPS, OF WHICH SOUND LEVELS WERE MEASURED AROUND THE HEAT PUMP AND INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE BUILDING. TWO CRITERIA WERE CONSIDERED: A MAXIMUM LEVEL OF 45 DECIBELS (A) OUTSIDE THE NEAREST OCCUPIED ROOM AND 31 DECIBELS (A) INSIDE THE NEAREST BEDROOM. A SIMPLE CALCULATING METHOD IS SUGGESTED FOR MEETING THESE CRITERIA.
