Summary

SOUTHERN SWEDEN POWER SUPPLY HAS CARRIED OUT FIELD TESTS ON HEAT PUMPS SINCE 1975. THE AUTHOR GIVES THE OPERATING RESULTS OF THREE PLANT. FOR TWO OF THEM, THE HEAT SOURCE IS GEOTHERMAL AND FOR THE THIRD ONE IT IS EXTERNAL AIR. IN ADDITION, SPECIFIC PROBLEMS IN DEFROSTING, MEASUREMENTS, SOUND LEVEL, STARTING CURRENTS AND RELIABILITY ARE PRESENTED. THE CONCLUSION IS THAT A HEAT PUMP WITH GROUND WATER AS THE HEAT SOURCE CAN PROVIDE THE HEAT REQUIRED BY A HOUSE. IN SOUTHERN SWEDEN, AN AIR-WATER HEAT PUMP CAN PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY THE SAME DUTY, EXCEPT DURING THE COLDEST PERIOD OF THE YEAR.
