Summary
The paper describes the development of a new reciprocating compressor for HFC-134a employing noise reduction techniques. Among all the noise factors, 70-80% is due to the suction muffler and compressor shell. The action of the suction muffler, as well as of the compressor shell are studied and analyzed by the finite elements method. Stiffness of the shell is enhanced. By using the above methods, a noise reduction of about 10 dB (A) is obtained (household refrigerating compressor, R134a).
