Summary

The authors report their recent experience of the percutaneous cryo-ablation treatment of un-resectable metastatic liver tumours. The first case was a 65 years old woman who had recieved a partial liver resection under the diagnosis of gall bladder cancer. Two months later, as the tumour marker was noted to increase and an abdominal MRI showed multiple liver tumours, percutaneous cryo-ablation therapy was performed under general anesthesia. The patient exhibited a reduction in tumour marker, but died five months post-cryo. The second case was a 70 years old woman with 10 years post-operative breast cancer in which pleural and multiple liver tumours were detected, and treated using cryo-ablation four times. The third case was a 64 years old man in which cryo-ablation reduced the size of the liver tumours, from stomach cancer. From these studies, percutaneous cryo-ablation has been established as an easily repeatable and low invasive therapy. Therefore, cryo-ablation may be applicable in case of terminal cancer patients given the excellent quality of life.
