THE PAPER PRESENTS NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE INCOMPRESSIBLE TURBULENT FLOW FIELD IN A SINGLE CAVITY OF THE STEPPED MULTI-CAVITY SEAL. THE DIMENSIONLESS BULK PRESSURE DROP FOR THE CAVITY WITH AND WITHOUT GROOVE HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR 4 DIFFERENT REYNOLDS NUMBERS AND 3 DIFFERENT SHAFT ROTATING SPEEDS. SIMPLER ALGORITHM IS APPLIED TO SOLVE THE NAVIER-STOKES EQUATION AND LOW-REYNOLDS NUMBER EQUATION WHICH TAKES TURBULENT FLOW INTO ACCOUNT.
