Summary

Borehole heat exchangers(BHEs), which are significant component of ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) were investigated with energy and entransy in this work. An improved 1D analytical model for BHEs and 3D numerical model for soil were adopted to calculate the hourly soil and fluid temperature variation. The work presents the specific calculation process of entransy dissipation which results from three aspects: the heat transfer between circulating fluid and pipe wall, the heat conduction within soiland at the isothermal boundary, respectively. Conservation equation of energy and balance equation of entransy including elements of water, soil and boundary throughout the third operating year are valid. The entransy dissipation produced within soil dominates the greatest percentage (95.75%) of total entransy dissipation compared with the other two aspects. These results could provide some reference on the target reducing entransy dissipation to improve the performance of GSHP systems.
