Numerical simulation on the natural gas liquefaction cycle using two expanders.

Summary
A single expander, as well as a refrigerator used for pre-cooling, is usually adopted in open-cycles of natural gas liquefaction using expansion engines. The natural gas liquefaction cycle using two expanders, one high-temperature expander, and one low-temperature expander, is more reliable under the same power consumption than that using one expander. It is suitable for medium-scale and large-scale LNG plants for the peak-shaving purpose. In the paper, the detailed numerical calculations and analyses are performed for the LNG system using two expanders in series at the processing capacity of natural gas at 120 000 Nm3 per day. The optimization principle of the system is presented.
