Summary

THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SKATING RINKS AND THE ICE PROPERTIES, AS WELL AS THE INTERACTION CHARACTERISTICS WITH SKATES AND THE AIR INCLUSION DISTRIBUTION ARE EXAMINED. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE ARTIFICIAL ICE PRESENTING THE BEST QUALITY FOR SKATING IS ONE-BLOCK ICE WITH BIG CRYSTALS, WITHOUT AIR INCLUSION, WITH A MEAN SURFACE TEMPERATURE OF 271 K (-2 DEG C) AND A TEMPERATURE VARIATION NOT HIGHER THAN 0.5 K. A CALCULATION METHOD FOR THE TEMPERATURE RANGES OF ICE IS DESCRIBED ; BASED ON THIS THE CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERISTICS OF SKATING RINKS AND THE THERMOPHYSICAL FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES WERE OPTIMIZED.
