Summary

This report is part of the work of the IEA Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems (ECBCS) Programme. It summarizes the key issues associated with occupants' use of ventilation systems. Wherever possible, it draws upon the results of occupant surveys and summarizes occupants' perceptions of their environment and how it should be controlled. The contents include: meeting health and comfort needs; ventilation; occupant impact on ventilation: dwellings and non-residential buildings; maintenance and durability; modelling occupant behaviour. The appendix gives relevant annotated literature according to building type. This report is included in the AIVC CD-ROM (see this Bulletin, reference 2003 - 1082).
