On scenario approach to global warming problems: the AIM approach.

Author(s) : MATSUOKA Y.

Summary

In order to respond to climate change, it is essential to describe possible future trajectories of greenhouse gas emissions and their environmental impacts in terms of both nonintervention and intervention strategies. The Asian Pacific Integrated Model (AIM) is a large-scale computer simulation model for scenario analyses of greenhouse gas emissions and the impacts of global warming in the Asian-Pacific region. The main goal of this model is to assess policy options for stabilizing global climate, particularly in the Asian-Pacific region, from the two perspectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and avoiding the impacts of climate change. In the paper, the author introduces the AIM structure and typical examples of its outputs. Also, the policy implication of such an integrated assessment modelling in order to tackle global environmental problems is discussed.
