Summary

Currently, there si not any reliable and simple method to measure the seasonal performance of air to air heat pumps (HP) in situ, because of the difficulty to measure the heat exchanged with the air during a long period. This article presents all the possible methods and then focuses on the most promising ones. First, air-to-air HP as well as their operating principle are briefly described in view of locating measurement sensors on the refrigeration cycle. Then, the various possible methods for measuring performance in situ are presented. The measurement apparatus required is discussed in each case. Finally, calculation procedures associated to these methods are detailed.
