Summary

THE PAPER IDENTIFIES THE GEOMETRY OF DISCHARGE-PORT DESIGN IN A SLIDING VANE ROTARY COMPRESSOR. PREVIOUS SIMULATIONS HAVE LUMPED THE GEOMETRY OF THE PORT AND VOLUMES FOLLOWING THE THROAT SECTION WITH THE VOLUME PRECEDING IT. THESE VOLUMES ARE WORTHY OF SEPARATE CONSIDERATION, AS FLUID TRAPPED THERE BY THE VANE HAS SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCY. ALSO, IF THE DISCHARGE PORT IS TOO CLOSE TO THE FINAL SEALING POINT, LEAKAGE INCREASES. A NEW APPROACH TO MODELLING IDENTIFIES THESE FEATURES AND ALSO OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF DISCHARGE PORT DESIGN. RESULTS COMPARE WELL WITH EXPERIMENTAL VALUES. D.W.H.
