Operating characteristics of ammonia-lithium nitrate and ammonia-sodium thiocyanate absorption refrigeration machines.

Summary

A simulation model for ammonia-salt absorption refrigeration machines was developed. Basic data required are the evaporating, heating medium, and cooling water temperatures, the heating medium, cooling water to absorber and condenser, and weak solution mass flow rates and the geometry and dimensions of the components. The internal and external irreversibilities of the components are determined from heat and mass transfer relations. Experiments were done to verify the effects of heating medium temperature, cooling water temperature and cooling water flow rate to the absorber on the performance of refrigerating machines using either ammonia-lithium nitrate or ammonia-sodium thicyanate. The experimental data validated the simulation model developed.
