THE PAPER IS DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF CONDUCTION AND CONVECTION THERMAL RESISTANCES AND OF THE GEOMETRICAL VARIABLES ON THE DEFINITION OF THE TECHNICO-ECONOMIC OPTIMISATION OF A CROSS-FLOW TUBULAR HEAT EXCHANGER. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT OPTIMISATION IS OBTAINED IF THE OVERALL COEFFICIENT KS IS MAINTAINED AT A CONSTANT LEVEL ; THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS EFFECTS SUCH AS THE SIZE EFFECT IS ALSO STUDIED. A.G.
