Summary
A simple procedure is given for optimizing the performance and coil dimensions of an Ellis and Walstrom type moving coil, linear variable differential transformer displacement transducer as well as a method of compensating for changes in calibration at different operating temperatures. The resulting transducer has been used successfully in liquid He and ambient magnetic fields up to 3 T but may also be used at any temperature up to 300 K without recalibration.
