Summary
LOOK AT SOME OF THE AREAS WHERE INTERESTING DEVELOPMENTS IN THE USE OF LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG) ARE TAKING PLACE. INCREASING INTEREST IS BEING SHOWN IN THE USE OF TRANSPORT FUEL. IT WOULD BE ALSO POSSIBLE TO USE THE REFRIGERATION POWER OF LNG, STORED AT ITS BOILING POINT OF APPROXIMATELY 113 K (-160 DEG C) TO PROVIDE CHEAP AND SIMPLE VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONING WITHOUT THE NEED FOR ENGINE-DRIVEN CLOSED CYCLE REFRIGERATION. LNG IS ALSO OF GREAT INTEREST IN CRYOGENIC PLANT DESIGN, LOW TEMPERATURE INSTRUMENTATION, CRYOPUMPING, REFRIGERATION AND SUPERCONDUCTIVITY. LARGE SCALE REFRIGERATION INDUSTRY MAKES VERYUSE OF CFCS. THE PROBLEM OF THE EARTH'S OZONE LAYER REQUIRES THEIR USE TO BE REDUCED AND IT IS NECESSARY TO CONSIDER THE APPLICATION OF NEW REFRIGERANTS. J. V.
