AIR-SOURCE HEAT PUMP AIR CONDITIONERS HAVE NOW BECOME MORE POPULAR BECAUSE THEY PROVIDE ENERGY SAVINGS AND A HIGHER LEVEL OF COMFORT. TO INCREASE THESE 2 FACTORS EVEN FURTHER, NEW HEAT PUMPS WITH WIDE RANGE (30-115 HERTZ) VARIABLE SPEED SCROLL COMPRESSORS DRIVEN BY INVERTERS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED. THE PRINCIPAL FEATURE OF THE NEW HEAT PUMP IS THE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE REFRIGERATING CYCLE, VIZ CONTROLLING THE SUPERHEAT OF THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE GAS WITH AN ELECTRONIC EXPANSION VALVE AND A MICROCOMPUTER. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE BASIC TECHNOLOGIES AND FEATURES OF THE NEW SYSTEM.
