Summary

PARTICULATE FOULING IN A PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER WAS INVESTIGATE USING A SUSPENSION OF ALUMINIUM OXIDE PARTICLES IN HEPTANE. PROCESS PARAMETERS SUCH AS FLOW VELOCITY, HEAT FLUX, AND PARTICLE CONCENTRATION WERE VARIED OVER A CONSIDERABLE RANGE. IN THIS PAPER, THE INFLUENCE OF THE ABOVE PARAMETERS ON THE ASYMPTOTIC FOULING RESISTANCE IS DISCUSSED. MEASURED VALUES OF FOULING RESISTANCE ARE COMPARED WITH RESULTS FOR A DOUBLE-PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER AND WITH THE PREDICTION OF A FOULING MODEL FROM THE LITERATURE.
