Summary

The so-called "twin plate" heat exchanger differs from traditional plate heat exchangers in having plates welded two-by-two, thereby forming sealed channels for refrigerant, while the channels for the secondary fluid are obtained, as usual, by assembling plates with conventional gaskets. Thus the advantages of the traditional gasket-sealed type are retained (easy cleaning, possibility of enlarging the surface area), without the problem of tightness to refrigerant, as only the circular holes between each couple of twin plates need gaskets. The considerable flexibility of the channels' walls, as in water chillers, is an advantage, as it is possible to absorb the expansion induced by freezing. E.F.
