Passive cooling in a low-energy office building.

Summary

Natural night ventilation and an earth-to-air heat exchanger are applied in the low-energy office building in Kortrijk (Belgium). Temperatures measured during summer 2002 were used to discuss the operation and cooling effect of these passive cooling techniques and the achieved thermal comfort. Simulations with a coupled thermal and ventilation simulation model TRNSYS-COMIS are carried out to estimate the impact of passive cooling. For this purpose, the simulated indoor temperatures are first compared to the measurements.
