Summary
THE PRESENCE OF MOISTURE IN BUILDING STRUCTURES IS AN OLD PROBLEM, BUT ITS IMPORTANCE IS GROWING, AS THE TREND TOWARD LOWER VENTILATION RATES AND INTERMITTENT HEATING MAY PROMOTE THE CONDENSATION OF ATMOSPHERIC WATER VAPOUR. AFTER AN ANALYSIS OF THE MEDICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO HUMIDITY, THE PAPER DEALS WITH DIFFERENT MEASURES TO BE TAKEN TO AVOID CONDENSATION OF WATER VAPOUR: PROPER DESIGN OF THE INSULATION SYSTEM AND ITS VAPOUR BARRIER ; PROPER CHOICE OF FRESH AIR EXCHANGE RATE ; PROPER MANAGEMENT OF THE HEATING SYSTEM.
