THE METROPOLITAN WATER CENTRE AT PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA IS A BUILDING OF 18,250 M2 DESIGNED TO BE ENERGY EFFICIENT AS FAR AS IS PRACTICAL. THE DOUBLE CUBE PLAN GIVES A MINIMUM OUTSIDE SURFACE AREA FOR HEAT EXCHANGE, PROJECTING FLOOR SLABS AREA SHADE WINDOWS, AND GOOD INSULATING VALUES HAVE BEEN USED. THE PLANT IS ALSO ENERGY EFFICIENT, USING SOLAR HEAT FOR HOT WATER SERVICES AND A V.A.V. AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM WHICH IS ABLE TO COUNTER BUILDING LOADS FOR MUCH OF THE YEAR WITH UNCONDITIONED OUTSIDE AIR. D.W.H.
